Kalkan is a small community with a picturesque port on the Turkish Mediterranean coast. There is a bay with rocky beaches and three hundred days of sunshine a year. Around the area yhere are several historic sites and stunning beaches. The word "Kalkan" in Turkish means "shield". Kalkan is an old fishing village and the only protected harbor between Kaş and Fethiye.

The older part of town by the harbor is the heart of society. Here we gather in the evenings to dine and shop among older houses covered with bougainvillea. There is a wide selection of restaurants, as outlined around three hundred. The genuine Turkish cuisine is extensive and well known in the world, but other cuisines are available. Prices vary between £3-30 per person.
Many properties in Kalkan is owned by English-speaking people, therefore, many locals speak english in the area.
Every Thursday, there is a large market in Kalkan.
A few kilometers away is the vast beach of Patara (connection there by minibus), trips to the Blue Caves on the island of Kekova is some of the excursions.
