Funktions in apartment
The apartment has a binder with descriptions how electricity, water, gas, washing machine etc. operates. There are also phone numbers to various correspondents.
Exchanging to the Turkish currency: Lira
In our experience it is better to change money in Kalkan, some queues in the banks. Withdrawals of cash machines is excellent. You get daily exchange rate and do not have to wait. We have Visa card and it has been problem-free. I assume that MasterCard and the other common card types work just as well. There are several ATMs in the village. When you land, there are money changers at the airport, but be aware that Turkish airports have a certain percent surcharge on the exchange rate. Withdrawals of cash machines are cheaper outside the airport area.
Bargaining
One should not be shy to bargain, 20-30% lower than the starting price is not unusual. Some merchants have fixed prices and do not want to haggle. Such stores price their goods often find the price tags. In some situations you do not dicker, such as supermarkets and restaurants belonging to that category.
Drinking water
Tap water comes from mountains, and have good quality. But the we Swedes who are not familiar with the Turkish bacteria usually buy bottled drinking water. Tap water we use for cooking, coffee, tea and tooth brushing. We have a habit of taking a little whiskey before we go and eat. Perhaps that is why we rarely have problems with our stomachs.
Thongs
The beach in the village is rocky. The stones are not sharp but it's nice with thongs on.
Sun protection
Protect yourself always to the strong sun, especially during the high season. Caps and hats are good to have. Sunscreens with high protection factor is often needed.
Vaccines
No vaccinations are needed.
Coffee
In the apartment there are coffee makers and filters. We recommend that you take with you brew coffee because coffee is quite expensive in Turkey. Or settle for instant coffee.
Walkie-talkies
We have a couple of walkie-talkies in the apartment that you may use. Convenient and cheap. Range 5-10 km, says on the package. |
